Generative AI is a branch of artificial intelligence that can create new content or data based on existing data or models. It can generate text, images, audio, video and code using techniques such as natural language processing, computer vision, deep learning and reinforcement learning. Generative AI has many potential applications across various domains such as entertainment, education, healthcare, e-commerce and software development.

How Infosys is working on Generative AI to transform its business and client outcomes

One of the leading IT companies that is exploring the possibilities of generative AI is Infosys, the second largest IT firm by sales in India. Infosys has recently announced that it is integrating generative AI platforms into its business operations and client projects, leveraging both open-source and proprietary solutions.

According to Infosys CEO Salil Parekh, generative AI can help the company unlock new opportunities for work with its clients and improve its own productivity. He said that Infosys has trained open-source generative AI platforms on its own internal software development libraries, and has also applied this approach to several of its internal software library elements.

Infosys is also working with clients to address specific areas and processes using generative AI, taking advantage of large models within client organizations to create more efficient solutions. Parekh said that Infosys has active programs and projects with clients working with generative AI platforms across different domains.

Infosys is not new to the field of artificial intelligence. It launched its first-generation AI platform, Mana, in 2016, which was later rebranded as Nia in 2017. Nia was an integrated AI platform that aimed to simplify, automate and optimize IT processes and business operations. Nia had capabilities such as socialization of organizational knowledge, deep analytics, service automation and automated incident root cause analysis.

However, with generative AI, Infosys is taking its AI capabilities to the next level, moving from being a consumer of data to a creator of data. Generative AI can enable Infosys to generate new content or data that can enhance its offerings and services, such as creating personalized content for customers, generating code for software development, synthesizing speech or images for multimedia applications and designing new products or solutions for clients.

Infosys has always been a strong advocate of responsible AI and has committed to supporting initiatives that advance the safe and ethical use of this transformative technology. Back in 2015, it donated $1 million to OpenAI, a non-profit research organization dedicated to advancing artificial intelligence. By contributing to OpenAI, Infosys demonstrated its commitment to the responsible development and use of AI, and its belief that AI could be a force for good in society.

Generative AI is still an emerging and evolving field of artificial intelligence, with many challenges and limitations. However, Infosys is showing its commitment and vision to harness the power of generative AI for its business and client outcomes. By integrating generative AI into its processes and projects, Infosys is demonstrating how it can innovate and differentiate itself in the competitive IT market.
