Amazon India Partners with Government for Skill Development and Promotion of Indian Content on Streaming Platforms

Amazon India has signed a Letter of Engagement (LoE) with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB), Government of India, for a multi-layered collaboration. The partnership aims to promote and showcase Indian content on Amazon's two streaming platforms, Prime Video and IMDb TV, as well as provide skill development and internship opportunities for students from government film institutes.

The LoE was announced by Union Minister of Information & Broadcasting Shri Anurag Thakur on 5th April 2023 at an event in New Delhi, where he was joined by Amit Agarwal, Global Senior Vice President and Country Head, Amazon India, and Varun Dhawan, Bollywood actor and Amazon India brand ambassador.

According to the LoE, Amazon India will create a dedicated storefront for books and journals from MIB's Publications Division on its e-commerce site, which will help in increasing their reach and visibility. Amazon India will also screen content from National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) and Doordarshan on Prime Video and IMDb TV, which will enable global audiences to access and appreciate Indian cinema and television.

Additionally, Amazon India will collaborate with MIB to provide skill development workshops and masterclasses for students from government film institutes such as Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI), and National School of Drama (NSD). Amazon India will also offer internship opportunities for these students across its various businesses such as Prime Video, IMDb TV, Audible, Kindle, Alexa, AWS, and Amazon Studios.

Speaking at the event, Shri Anurag Thakur said that the partnership with Amazon India is a significant step towards boosting India's creative economy and enhancing its soft power. He said that the collaboration will help in showcasing the rich diversity and talent of Indian content creators to the world, as well as provide a platform for learning and skill development for the youth.

Amit Agarwal said that Amazon India is committed to supporting the growth of India's media and entertainment industry and empowering its creators with the best tools and technology. He said that Amazon India is delighted to partner with MIB to bring Indian stories to millions of customers across the world through Prime Video and IMDb TV, as well as to nurture the next generation of talent through skill development and internship programs.

Varun Dhawan said that he is proud to be associated with Amazon India as its brand ambassador and to be a part of this historic partnership with MIB. He said that he believes that this collaboration will open up new avenues for Indian content creators and filmmakers to showcase their work to a global audience and to learn from the best in the industry.
